Audit evidence. The audit lists 0 confirmed Comics+ assets and 70 adjacent candidates. 60 of those sit in the Graphic Novels & Comics folder, which collapses to 40 unique base labels after duplicates. Much of the pool is generic, text-specific, or Batman-focused. This pack therefore uses 13 reviewed assets and 12 builds. It is an analysis unit: Comic Creator is the separate making unit.

Before you teach

  • There is no confirmed anchor. Every scheduled source asset is reviewed, not confirmed for Year 7.
  • Choose the shared graphic novel before teaching. The pack is text-agnostic, but the essay needs a common text or approved text set.
  • Check that you have licensed copies of the shared text and Understanding Comics before using the chapter questions.
  • Do not reproduce full comic pages. Use licensed copies, a document camera, or extracts permitted by school policy.
  • Check image rights in Sample Layouts before sharing it with students.
  • Adapt the Batman and The Long Halloween trackers; do not make one franchise the centre of the unit.
  • Normalise US spelling and terminology in the existing resources.
  • Include comics beyond superheroes: memoir, manga, history, wordless narrative, and webcomics.
  • Set content boundaries for the shared text, especially for trauma, racism, and violence.
  • Keep the unit analytical. Students may sketch to explain a technique, but the assessment is an essay.
  • Do not duplicate Comic Creator. Comics+ analyses existing texts; Comic Creator makes new pages.
