Sources and Provenance
This page records how the packet was made and what it deliberately excludes. It is a transparency record, not a substitute for a teacher's professional judgement. The packet is original teaching material written for LessPlan.
What this packet is
- An original, generic five-week unit on the fundamentals of public speaking for Year 9.
- Sixteen public HTML pages, including the overview and this provenance page.
- Written in Australian English for a secondary English audience.
- Static, print-friendly and usable without a login.
- Formative in purpose: it describes success criteria and feedback, not results.
What it is not
- It is not a school program, faculty plan or scope-and-sequence document.
- It is not a formal reporting instrument and contains no test papers, marking keys or reporting schedules.
- It does not reproduce copyrighted speeches, scripts, recordings or transcripts.
- It does not contain student names, school data, staff details or confidential material.
- It is not affiliated with any publisher, speaker, estate or rights holder.
Original content
All explanatory prose, tables, prompts, models, checklists and worked examples were written for this packet. The model speech outlines and the example sentences are original teaching material. They are not transcripts of real speeches and do not reproduce the words of any public figure.
The packet draws on long-established public concepts in communication studies, rhetoric and performance: the communication model, audience analysis, register, active listening, performance anxiety and deliberate practice. These concepts are not owned by any single author and are presented here in original wording and examples. No proprietary framework, program or template is reproduced.
Public-domain and licensed material

| Historical speeches and quotations | Not reproduced in this packet. | Teachers may use public-domain or licensed extracts with attribution. |
| Modern speeches and recordings | Not reproduced. | Check copyright and licence before sharing. |

| Student work | Not included. | Use only with informed consent and school approval. |
Quotation practice
- If you add a quotation to a local adaptation, keep it short and attribute it.
- Do not reproduce a full speech without checking the copyright status.
- Do not present a paraphrase as a direct quotation.
- Check the date and source of historical quotations; attribution is often disputed.
- Do not use a modern recording as a substitute for the text unless the licence allows it.
Deliberate exclusions
| Excluded | Reason |
|---|---|
| Formal reporting instruments, test papers and marking keys | The packet is a teaching and formative-feedback resource. |
| Scores, bands, weightings and rankings | These belong to a school's own reporting process, not a public packet. |
| Task numbers, due dates and submission dates | These are school-specific and change each year. |
| Student names, work samples and school data | Privacy and consent. |
| Copyrighted speeches and recordings | Copyright and licensing. |
| Diagnostic or therapeutic claims about anxiety | The packet offers practical strategies, not clinical advice. |
| Political endorsements | The packet teaches speaking skills, not a partisan position. |
Accessibility and print
- Pages use semantic headings, tables with header cells and a skip link.
- Colour is not the only way information is conveyed.
- Pages are designed to print without the site navigation.
- Text is written in plain Australian English where possible.
- Audio is optional; no page depends on sound alone.
- Tables are used for comparison and planning, not for decorative layout.
