Sources and Provenance
This page records how the packet was made and what it deliberately excludes. It is a transparency record, not a bibliography of prescribed texts. The packet is original teaching material written for LessPlan.
What this packet is
- An original, generic five-week unit on persuasion for Year 9.
- Sixteen public HTML pages, including the overview and this provenance page.
- Written in Australian English for a secondary English audience.
- Static, print-friendly and usable without a login.
- Formative in purpose: it describes success criteria and feedback, not results.
What it is not
- It is not a school program, faculty plan or scope-and-sequence document.
- It is not an assessment instrument and contains no test papers, marking keys or reporting schedules.
- It does not reproduce a prescribed campaign, advertisement, speech, logo, poster or photograph.
- It does not contain student names, school data, staff details or confidential material.
- It does not endorse a political party, candidate, product or advocacy organisation.
Original content
All explanatory prose, tables, prompts, models, checklists and worked examples were written for this packet. The examples are fictional or generic: the school food-waste campaign, the shade-tree proposal, the road-safety scenario and the canteen poster are teaching illustrations, not reports of real events. Any resemblance to a particular school or campaign is incidental.
Public knowledge and concepts
The packet draws on long-established public concepts in rhetoric and argumentation, including the rhetorical situation, ethos, pathos and logos, claim and reason, warrant, counterargument, qualifier, and common reasoning errors. These concepts are not owned by any single author and are presented here in original wording and examples. No proprietary framework, program or template is reproduced.
Sources and links
The packet does not require students to read any external text. Where a teacher or student needs evidence for a campaign, they should use the source evaluation guidance and record each source in the source log. The packet itself links only to its own pages and to the main LessPlan site.
Teachers who supply campaign texts for analysis should use material that is public domain, openly licensed, created by the class, or covered by an appropriate educational licence. A link is preferable to a copied extract. Do not upload a third party's poster, advertisement or video to a public page without permission.

Deliberate exclusions
| Excluded | Reason |
|---|---|
| Assessment instruments, test papers and marking keys | The packet is a teaching and formative-feedback resource. |
| Scores, bands, weightings and rankings | These belong to a school's own reporting process, not a public packet. |
| Task numbers, due dates and submission dates | These are school-specific and change each year. |
| Student names, work samples and school data | Privacy and consent. |
| Prescribed political campaigns and partisan material | The unit teaches analysis, not a position. |
| Copyrighted images, advertisements, speeches and lyrics | Permission and copyright. |
| Internal staff emails and faculty planning | Confidentiality. |
Accessibility and print
- Pages use semantic headings, tables with header cells and a skip link.
- Colour is not the only way information is conveyed.
- Pages are designed to print without the site navigation.
- Text is written in plain Australian English where possible.
- External video, if a teacher adds it, should be captioned.
