Sources and Provenance

Year 9 HEAP • Biographies • Provenance

This page records how the packet was made and what it deliberately excludes. It is a transparency record, not a substitute for the texts or research a teacher may use alongside it. The packet is original teaching material written for LessPlan.

What this packet is

What it is not

Original content

All explanatory prose, tables, prompts, models, checklists and worked examples were written for this packet. The examples are fictional or generic: Mara Chen, the community garden, Harbour Lights, Nadia, Moreau, Elias, Amal, Ruth Alvarez and the family shop are teaching illustrations, not reports of real people, places or events. Any resemblance to a particular person, family, workplace or community is incidental.

Public knowledge and concepts

The packet draws on long-established public concepts in literary studies, history, journalism and research methods, including life writing, oral history, primary and secondary sources, provenance, corroboration, narrative voice, focalisation, representation and the claim-evidence-warrant structure. These concepts are not owned by any single author and are presented here in original wording and examples. No proprietary framework, program or template is reproduced.

References and influences

The packet refers to forms and practices rather than to specific published works. It does not quote or summarise any biography, memoir or interview. Teachers may pair the packet with short extracts from texts they are licensed to use; those extracts remain the responsibility of the teacher and are not included here.

ReferenceHow it is usedWhat is not included
Biography and memoir as genresDiscussed through original definitions and examples. No extracts, chapter summaries or cover art.
Oral history and interview practiceExplained through generic protocols and fictional scenarios. No real interviews, transcripts or recordings.
Research methodsExplained through source evaluation and fictional source sets.No archival documents or proprietary templates.
Australian contextsDiscussed with general protocols and a call for consultation. No community stories, images or cultural material reproduced.
Literary and media termsDefined in original wording. No copyrighted glossary or textbook material.

Fictional examples

The packet uses fictional people and organisations so that students can practise ethical and analytical decisions without exposing real individuals. The model profile of Ruth Alvarez, the memoir passage about the family shop, the source conflict about Harbour Lights and the interview ladder about a retired railway worker are all invented for teaching. They should not be cited as factual accounts.
