Sources and Provenance
This page records how the packet was made and what it deliberately excludes. It is a transparency record, not a substitute for the films or research a teacher may use alongside it. The packet is original teaching material written for LessPlan.
What this packet is
- An original, generic five-week unit on Australian drama film for Year 9.
- Sixteen public HTML pages, including the overview and this provenance page.
- Written in Australian English for a secondary English audience.
- Static, print-friendly and usable without a login.
- Formative in purpose: it describes success criteria and feedback, not results.
What it is not
- It is not a school program, faculty plan or scope-and-sequence document.
- It is not a formal reporting instrument and contains no test papers, marking keys or reporting schedules.
- It does not reproduce film footage, stills, scripts, dialogue, posters, logos or soundtracks.
- It does not reproduce reviews, interviews or production documents.
- It does not contain student names, school data, staff details or confidential material.
- It is not affiliated with any filmmaker, studio, distributor or rights holder.
Original content
All explanatory prose, tables, prompts, models, checklists and worked examples were written for this packet. The examples are fictional or generic: The Long Paddock, After the Flood, the kitchen scene, the bus stop, the dry riverbed and the dialogue about the kettle are teaching illustrations, not descriptions of real films. Any resemblance to a particular film, production or person is incidental.
Public knowledge and concepts
The packet draws on long-established public concepts in film studies and literary analysis, including national cinema, genre, mise-en-scène, cinematography, diegetic and non-diegetic sound, editing, narrative structure, performance, representation and the claim-evidence-warrant structure. These concepts are not owned by any single author and are presented here in original wording and examples. No proprietary framework, program or template is reproduced.
Film titles and metadata
The packet names a small number of Australian films and their directors for identification and context. These are factual references, not endorsements or affiliations. The packet does not analyse these films in detail or reproduce any of their material. Teachers should choose a film that is licensed and suitable for their class.
| Reference | How it is used | What is not included |
|---|---|---|
| Australian drama films | Named for context and selection. | No footage, stills, scripts, dialogue, posters or soundtracks. |
| Directors and performers | Named for attribution and context. | No biographical claim beyond public, general information. |
| Film reviews and interviews | Suggested as research material for teachers and students. | No reviews or interviews reproduced. |
| Australian film history | Summarised in broad, general terms. | No archival documents or proprietary histories reproduced. |
| First Nations protocols | Explained as general principles. | No community stories, images or cultural material reproduced. |
Fictional examples
The packet uses fictional films and scenes so that students can practise analysis without reproducing copyrighted material. The Long Paddock and After the Flood do not exist. The characters, dialogue, shot descriptions and storyboards are invented for teaching. They should not be cited as factual accounts or as evidence about a real film.
