Sources and Provenance
This packet is an original teaching resource about a contemporary novel. It does not reproduce the novel, a film script, production stills or a commercial study guide.
The novel
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins was published by Scholastic in 2025. It is a copyrighted work. Students should read from a school-supplied or personal copy. Short quotations may be used in class discussion and writing where the school's licensing arrangements allow, but this packet does not include extracts.
What is linked rather than copied
- The novel itself, in print, audiobook or a school-licensed edition.

- Public discussion and reviews used for background, not reproduced.
- Film adaptation information, referenced by title and date only.
What is not included

Plot and spoilers
The packet refers to the premise of the 50th Hunger Games and to Haymitch's role as victor, information that is also available in the original series. It avoids detailed retelling of later events so that teachers can control spoilers for their class.
Images and media
This packet contains no images. Any film adaptation, interview or book-trailer used in class remains the teacher's responsibility and should be covered by the school's licensing arrangements.
Currency and review
The packet was prepared for the 2027 Year 8 English course and reviewed in October 2026. It is designed to sit alongside the school's course outline and text selection. Teachers should check the current edition, content advice and licensing before use.
Read the book, not the summary. The unit is designed around students' own reading. Summaries and clips can support access, but they cannot replace the experience of the novel.
