Outcomes and Skills

Year 8 English • General Resources • five-week unit • {count} public resources • no assessment instrument • Outcomes and Skills

This unit treats reading and writing as connected acts. A student who can notice how a sentence works is better placed to write one; a student who can explain a choice is better placed to revise it.

How the skills connect

Reading for meaning supplies the text. Inference turns observation into interpretation. Close reading gives the interpretation precision. Paragraphing organises it. Sentence craft makes it readable. Vocabulary gives it range. Multimodal reading extends the same habits to image and design. The writing process turns all of it into a finished piece.

What success looks like

Transfer is the goal. The unit is generic by design. Every strategy should be tried on a text the class is already studying, so the skill does not stay locked inside the skills lesson.
