Sources and Provenance

Year 8 English • A Quiet Place 1 and 2 • five-week unit • {count} public resources • no assessment instrument • Sources and Provenance

This packet is an original teaching resource about two contemporary films. It does not reproduce a screenplay, film still, trailer, recording or detailed scene-by-scene transcript.

The films

A Quiet Place was released in 2018, directed by John Krasinski and written by Bryan Woods, Scott Beck and Krasinski. A Quiet Place Part II was filmed in 2019 and released in 2020/2021, also directed by Krasinski. Both are copyrighted works. Students should view them through a school-licensed copy, a cinema screening or another permitted source.

What is not included

Plot and spoilers

The packet refers to the premise, the creature rule and the broad movement of both films. It avoids detailed retelling so that teachers can control spoilers and content exposure. Students should experience the films before reading analysis that gives away later events.

Images and media

This packet contains no images. Any clip, trailer or interview used in class remains the teacher's responsibility and should be covered by the school's licensing arrangements. Do not publish clips or stills in student work.

Representation and sensitivity

The unit discusses deafness, American Sign Language and the cochlear implant. These are sensitive topics for some students and communities. Use respectful language, avoid treating deafness as a deficit and do not ask students to disclose personal medical information.

Currency and review

The packet was prepared for the 2027 Year 8 English course and reviewed in October 2026. It is designed to sit alongside the school's course outline and text selection. Teachers should check the current classification, content advice and licensing before use.

View the film, not the summary. Analysis depends on the experience of watching. Clips and summaries can support access, but they cannot replace the film.
